What We Do
We are a team of Pregnancy & Paediatric Chiropractors and Womens Health Exercise Physiologists helping mums and bubs thrive
Pregnancy Chiropractic:
During pregnancy, it is common to experience lower back, pelvic pain and sciatica. These are due to both the hormonal changes causing increased joint laxity and the bodies altered centre of gravity creating pelvic imbalance and instability.
Our gentle and effective chiropractic treatments are pregnancy specific and focus on removing intra-uterine torsion, round ligament pain, pelvic pain and restoring correct pelvic alignment. This holistic approach assists with achieving a natural birth, reducing labour time and improved recovery post birth.
Paediatric Chiropractic care:
Chiropractic care for babies and children is something we at Scope Chiropractic are very passionate about. Dr Claudia Cadona, our qualified paediatric chiropractor, has been working with and treating infants and babies for many years. She uses specific and gentle treatment techniques and provides all parents with honest and practical advice and education. Each consult we strive to ensure all parents understand and feel comfortable with the treatment and advice.
Birth can be traumatic on babies. A baby’s spine is designed to absorb the compression forces present during a natural delivery. Assisted deliveries (forceps, vacuum or caesarean births) can cause traction to the head and neck and may cause damage to the muscles and joints of a baby’s spine. This may cause symptoms such as torticollis, head preference, irritability and breast-feeding difficulties.
Exercise Physiology in pregnancy
During pregnancy there are many physiological changes which occur to a women’s body including increased weight, increased demands on the spine, shifts in the centre of gravity, increased laxity of ligaments, large changes in hormone levels and increased blood volume. All of these can affect a women's response to exercise and their ability to safely participate in exercise, sport, and activity. A Women’s Health Exercise Physiologist has a thorough understanding of these changes which occur during pregnancy and can adapt and prescribe exercise to ensure it is both safe and effective. Exercise during pregnancy is particularly beneficial to managing healthy weight gain of mother and baby, reducing the risk of gestational diabetes, hypertension, preeclampsia, and birth interventions. It can also help treat or reduce the occurrence of musculoskeletal complaints associated with pregnancy such as back and pubic pain. Resistance training, is effective at increasing or maintaining strength to manage the increased weight of pregnancy, prepare the body for labour, delivery, and the postpartum period.
Exercise Physiology for postpartum
In the postnatal period there are many factors which need to be considered when returning to exercise. Pregnancy, labour, and delivery place a massive toll on the body and care should be taken reintroducing exercise. Knowing how and when to reintroduce movement, activity, specific exercises, and sport can play a large role in both your immediate and long-term recovery. A Women’s Health Exercise Physiologist has a special understanding of these considerations and has the knowledge and skill to educate safe movement strategies and use exercise prescription to help with many of the following conditions: abdominal separation, incontinence, and pelvic floor dysfunction, prolapse, lower back pain, upper and middle back pain, elbow, wrist and thumb pain from feeding.
Exercise Physiology for womens health conditions
Exercise physiology can be used throughout a women's lifespan for many different conditions. Using exercise as a form of treatment is effective in conditions such as endometriosis, adenomyosis, chronic pelvic pain, polycystic ovarian syndrome, osteopenia and osteoporosis, incontinence, prolapse, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia and breast and gynaecological cancers. A Women’s Health Exercise Physiologist has knowledge and specific experience working with these conditions and understands the intricacies around safe and effective exercise prescription to help manage and treat them.
